This research project is embedded in the current development debate of migration and development: are return migrants “agents of change” and a “brain-gain” to their countries’ economy? Successful reintegration includes personal financial and existential security. Most people secure jobs through their personal networks depending on the degree of familiarity or social influence. This job-finding with the help of personal contacts follows diverse patterns in Ghana and Cameroon. In-depth knowledge arising from a comparative qualitative country case study contributes to the theory debate. The study also draws careful attention to young professionals from Ghana and Cameroon as being active and creative role players instead of being subjects of policy makers.
