Linguistic geography deals with the spatial distribution of linguistic phenomena. Therefore, it is part of linguistics rather than of geography. The course offers a general introduction into linguistic geography and discusses relevant basic terms (e.g. isogloss, dialect, idiolect, sociolect, linguistic maps, Sprachbund, geography of languages).
