Theory of Arts (How to decolonize Art Studies)
Seminar, SWS: 2, lecture number: 40175
Vortragende/r (Mitwirkende/r) Fink, Katharina
This course begins by engaging with the recent debate around the possibilities to decolonize the university and the museum, and unlearn the Western curriculum with a specific focus on the call to decolonize art studies and art history (e.g. Lockward, Andusei-Poku, Smith, Mignolo). In the second section, students will give presentations on seminal texts by writers such as Fanon, Said, Thiong'o, Cabral, Mudimbe, Cesaire, and Spivak. The aim is to discuss a possible new canon of theoretical texts for a decolonized art studies curriculum engaged with and in the Global South.
