BIGSAS Management / Head of BIGSAS

The overall management of BIGSAS lies with the Head of BIGSAS. In accordance with the Regulations of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, the Vice Dean for Early Career and Equal Opportunity (EC&EO) automatically serves as Head of BIGSAS for the duration of their elected term. The current Head of BIGSAS is Prof. Dr Thoko Kaime.

In this role, the Head of BIGSAS ensures compliance with all provisions, regulations, and requirements set out in the BIGSAS Regulations and Study Regulations. In urgent matters that cannot be postponed, the Head of BIGSAS is also authorised to take decisions on behalf of the Steering Committee (SC).

The Head of BIGSAS is supported by the Deputy Head, who assists in carrying out these responsibilities, as well as by the BIGSAS Coordinator in administrative matters. The Deputy Head is elected from among the four representatives of BIGSAS members serving on the SC. The current Deputy Head of BIGSAS is Prof. Dr Serawit Bekele Debele.
