BIGSAS Management / Head of BIGSAS

The overall management of BIGSAS is the responsibility of the Head of BIGSAS. According to the Regulations of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence, the Vice Dean of the Early Career and Equal Opportunity portfolio (EC&EO) automatically becomes Head of BIGSAS for the term for which they are elected. As the position of Head of BIGSAS is vacant, the Deputy Head of BIGSAS represents the role. In this role, they ensure that all the provisions, rules and requirements of the BIGSAS Regulations and Study Regulations are complied with. With regard to matters that are urgent and cannot be postponed, the Head of BIGSAS is also authorised to make decisions on behalf of the Steering Committee (SC). The Head of BIGSAS is assisted by the Deputy Head, who supports the Head of BIGSAS in their duties, as well as administratively by the Coordinator of BIGSAS. The Deputy Head is elected amongst the four representatives of the Members of BIGSAS who are part of the SC. The current Deputy Head of BIGSAS is Prof. Dr Serawit Bekele Debele.
